What’s for Dinner?
I don’t like cooking. At all. I love to bake, but I do NOT like to cook. I think this comes down to the simple fact that I absolutely hate reading directions. Don’t ask me why I enjoy baking when I still have to follow a recipe. Probably because I’m a sugar junkie and the payoff makes it worth it.
Because of my hatred of the culinary arts, my poor husband is pretty deprived in the coming home to a good meal after work area. He’s usually just greeted with a blank stare when he asks the dreaded question, “What’s for dinner?”
When I do cook something, even if it’s foul, he ALWAYS compliments me and is appreciative. Because of that, I really think he deserves for me to improve in this area, so here’s what I’m going to do.
Every day I’ll post our dinner menu. Along with the menu, I will post the recipes I’m going to use to cook with (I feel myself groaning inwardly even as I type this). Later in the day, I’ll update with pictures of the process, and in the evening after the masterpiece has been devoured (or regurgitated), I will report on the success - or lack thereof - of the dinner menu.
Here’s where you come in. If there’s one thing I abhor in life, it’s wasting time. Part of why I struggle with cooking is because it drives me crazy to put so much time and effort into making something, only to have it turn out badly.
I need ideas… and I need recipes. If you’ve cooked something, and it’s something a VERY novice chef can do and do well (or if you just have a supreme amount of faith in my uncultivated cooking prowess) - shoot it over to my email account at the bottom of this post. I’m also going to start a Recipe Box that has my favorite recipes that I find or that you send me. If you see something on there that you think you can top, send it to me and I’ll give it a shot. If yours is better (according to our highly unsophisticated palates), it’ll replace the one I have in my Recipe Box.
Take pity on my husband, and help me start feeding him well at the end of the day. He works hard and he deserves it!
